  • Posted by: Center for Social Justice

The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) will launch its new Budgetpedia website- https://budgetpedia.ng/ – a one-stop-shop for all budget information in Nigeria.

Budgetpedia is set up by the Centre for Social Justice Nigeria as a single internet portal to serve as a primary and definitive source of information on budgeting in Nigeria containing and displaying all public sector budgeting information at all times.

It seeks to bridge the information gap between citizens and government and make budget information freely available to all.

Budgetpedia is based on a theory of change that access to budget information is the currency for enhanced engagement, value for money intervention(s) and demand for accountability by citizens on duty bearers.

In Budgetpedia, you will gain unmatched access to federal and state budget documents from 1999 to date. This includes Appropriation Acts, Budget implementation reports and budget speeches of the federal government and the 36 states of the federation.

You will also gain access to reports of the Accountant General of the Federation as well as from various states of the Federation.

Budgetpedia gives users access to yearly reports from the office of the auditor general of the federation as well as the states and also access to research documents on various topics relating to budget and finance of states and also the federation.

It also contains national and international laws and policies related to budgets and the economy as well as a collection of legal decisions of courts and similar tribunals in the course of deciding cases on public finance.

There, you will also find federal and state government policies document including the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF & FSP) which is an annual, rolling three year-expenditure planning that sets out the medium-term expenditure priorities and hard budget constraints against which sector plans can be developed and refined.

The website is a robust repository of debt management for the states and the federal government. The section on debt on the website contains information on the structural characteristics of public debt in Nigeria including the size, types, proportions, terms, maturities, ownership patterns of public debt and the methods of its redemption.

On fiscal responsibility, the website contains publications and laws on debt expenditure, capital expenditure, borrowings and other liabilities, lending and the fiscal significance of the debt liability of the Federal and state government.

It has documents on Audit, Public Finance Management, Economic Policies, Finance, Revenue and Tax Laws.

Budgetpedia in its present form is a work in progress and is still in the process of collecting all the information and materials needed to make it complete and comprehensive. We welcome assistance by public and private stakeholders in gaining access to budget information from the federal state and local governments between 1999 and the present time.
