CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF GENDER AND INCLUSIVITY OFFICER AT CENTRE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) is a Knowledge Institution, being a non-governmental, non-profit and non-partisan organisation registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a Charity. It was established to introduce professionalism in civil society work and to use social entrepreneurship to provide cutting edge services to enhance and deepen economic, social and political change. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee under Nigerian law.

CSJ envisions a Nigeria where social justice informs public decision-making and guarantees respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all. Her mission is “to be a principal catalyst in mainstreaming social justice in public life through policy engagement and interventions that bring about economic, political and social reforms, rights enhancement and sustainable livelihoods.”

CSJ has its head office in Abuja and a branch office in Sokoto. It also carries out project implementation in all states of the federation through the Citizens Wealth Platform which she convenes – a platform of Civil Society Organisation working on Fiscal Transparency and Public Accountability thematic area.

GENDER AND INCLUSIVITY PROJECT SUMMARY

The Gender and Inclusivity Programme (GIP) seeks to engage governance frameworks for the mainstreaming of gender and vulnerability in the plans, policies and budget continuum. GIP uses action research, advocacy, capacity building, networking and strategic engagements to deliver on its mandate. Its key projects include:

• Gender Responsive Budgeting which works for a gender transformative approach to economic policies including budgeting, fiscal and monetary policies and state supported social and livelihood opportunities.
• Sexual and Gender-Based Violence engagements that tackle the root cause(s) of gender-based violence through law and policy advocacy.
• Agriculture and the right to food which engages the basic right to feed oneself, productivity gains and reduction of drudgery in farming, equal opportunities and access to land, farm equipment and implements, seeds, fertilisers, etc., especially for Small Scale Women Farmers.
• Constitutional, legal and political reforms.
• Defence of the rights of women and vulnerable groups.

THE POSITION SUMMARY

Centre for Social Justice is seeking to employ a Programme Officer on Gender and Inclusivity. Interested individuals (preferably female) with requisite qualifications are hereby advised to send in their applications for consideration.

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate would:
• Anchor the implementation of existing projects in the project summary.
• Build and maintain partnerships and relationships with program partners, such as non-profits organisations, federal and state agencies, and community organizations, etc.
• Use a multi-media approach to build public awareness and sensitization on gender and inclusivity.
• Represent the organisation in relevant sector meetings and report to management
• Prepare fundraising and business development proposals.
• Provide support as needed for the preparation and timely submission of detailed reports to partners on project activities on an activity, quarterly and annual basis in compliance with project requirements.
• Support the development of activity documents including management and updates as may be required.
• Support, as needed, the mobilization of private partners’ support for activities.
• Assist in collection of data to inform and support Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Research related activities.
• Work on any other project or towards other deliverables as may be required by Management.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate would possess:
• A BSc Degree in Social Sciences, Law or other related discipline.
• At least three (3) years of cognate experience working as a Programme Officer or in Project Management within the non-government space (experience in the field of Gender and Inclusivity is preferred).
• Experience in attending meetings, workshops, other stakeholder engagements and in maintaining coalition memberships.
• Possess ability to aptly prioritize tasks and work well under pressure
• A critical understanding of and deep commitment to Social Justice and related issues.
• Track record of relevant deliverables within the Civil Society Space.

SKILLS
• Deep understanding of gender and its associated national and international laws and policies.
• Strong research, analytical and report writing skills.
• Sound knowledge of project management.
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – MS Word; MS Excel; MS PowerPoint.
• Great attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to meet stipulated deadlines and excellent time management skills.
• Self-motivated to perform well.
