The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) has hosted a number of Civil Society Organisation (CSO) partners for a peer learning meeting under the European Union funded (EU) ACT project.
The project, Agents for Citizen-driven Transformation (ACT) works with CSOs to enable them to be credible and effective drivers of change for sustainable development in Nigeria.
The project focuses on strengthening the system of CSOs, networks and coalitions to improve their internal, external and programmatic capabilities and providing a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue for an improved, effective and inclusive regulatory environment for the operation of CSOs in Nigeria.
At the meeting held at CSJ’s head office, Seyi Tetteh, the EU-ACT focal person in the Federal Capital Territory, who spoke on project monitoring and evaluation, said that if an organization is not unable to meet up with compliance issues, then there is an issue of credibility with the organisation.
One of the partners disclosed that she has formed a resource mobilisation committee of people who have interest in humanitarian work to develop a strategy around organizational effectiveness and has also repositioned some staff to best serve in positions that fits into their mission.
Others reported on their efforts at working to increase their organisation’s visibility particularly on social media and also working on their website.
There were issues raised by another organization on the challenges of achieving proper documentation in her organization particularly in the area of finance.
She observed that there is always a hitch with the project officers in delivering supporting documents which in the long run causes delay and non-compliance to the project requirement. She therefore wants to know steps to be put in place to ensure proper documentation, be it in finance and programme reporting.
The meeting resolved to work at improving the compliance rating of their various organisation’s according to project requirements.
