About Us

Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) is a Knowledge Institution, being a non-governmental, non-profit and non-partisan organisation registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a Charity. It was established to introduce professionalism in civil society work and to use social entrepreneurship to provide cutting edge services to enhance and deepen economic, social and political change. A Nigeria where social justice informs public decision-making and guarantees respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.

To be a principal catalyst in mainstreaming social justice in public life through policy engagement and interventions that bring about economic, political and social reforms, rights enhancement and sustainable livelihoods.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of national laws and policies on social rights and justice in accordance with international best practices;

  • Monitor the extent of Nigeria’s compliance with ratified international standards on social rights and justice;
  • Provide a resource base and enhance the exchange of information on matters related to social justice;
  • Promote popular participation and gender mainstreaming in public decision making;
  • Promote wealth creation and poverty reduction strategies as tools for social justice;

Our Strategy

ADVOCACY

CSJ over the years has built an incomparable capacity to  be the voice of the marginalized and voiceless  in the society.

Our contribution in the domestication of the VAPP Act in Adamawa and Sokoto are some of the impacts our advocacy has had within the last one year.

AWARENESS CREATION

With the gap in information dissemination, CSJ has developed information sharing skill with the digital frontier being a focal point.

We have been able to set national conversations along the lines of the roles of the auditor general of the federation especially as regards infractions identified by his office

CAPACITY BUILDING

CSJ carries out capacity building trainings for organizations and individuals to bring them to speed with best practices.

From civil society organisations, to government institutions like the police, federal ministry of finance, federal ministry of health, CSJ has a track record of helping institutions come up to speed with global standards

LITIGATION

CSJ happens to be one of the few Nigerian NGOs with a legal department spear headed by competent lawyers.

This rear capacity has offered CSJ the opportunity to litigate on behalf of the people whenever a rights infringement is spotted. CSJ has won several cases against the state and other institutions and individuals

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

CSJ has an unmatched sense of evaluation and monitoring for effective strategy development.

This is evident in the realisation of project goals and targets as well as improvement in certain areas which CSJ has focused on over the years

RESEARCH

CSJ regularly dives deeper into its focus area and more to find better ways of doing things

It is our capacity to research that has gotten us this far. With this, we get insights into problems and find possible ways to tackle them

Laws which define rights are what sets us humans apart from other organisms on the planet. Despite the existence of these laws, there needs to be  intentional, decisive and targeted steps to make sure these laws are fulfilled to the later. Hence

The importance of the budget policy plan continuum cannot be overemphasized for the state to play a part in attainment of rights of all under its care
